Trial, billing & cancellation
Everything you need to know about how the 7-day trial works, what changes when it ends, how to upgrade, how to cancel, and our refund policy.

The 7-day free trial
Every new account that signs up for a Pro plan starts with a 7-day free trial. During the trial you get full access to all Pro features:
- Unlimited clinical searches
- All citation formats (APA 7th, Vancouver, NHMRC)
- CPD session tracking and certificate export
- AI intervention plan generator
- PII auto-detection
- Evidence bookmarks and 90-day search history
No credit card for the Free plan
If you sign up for the Free plan, no payment details are required. The Free plan has no trial period — you can use it indefinitely with 10 searches per day and basic citations. A credit card is only required if you choose to start a Pro or Clinic subscription.
For Pro plan trials, your credit card details are captured at the start of the trial but you are not charged until day 8. Your trial end date and first charge date are displayed in Settings → Billing before you confirm. You will also receive an email reminder 24 hours before your trial ends.
What happens when the trial ends
At the end of day 7 of your Pro trial, one of two things happens depending on what you chose at signup:
If you provided a payment method
Your Pro subscription automatically activates and your card is charged $29 AUD. Your account remains on Pro with full access. Nothing else changes — you continue using OpenBook exactly as during the trial.
If you did not provide a payment method
Your account drops to the Free tier automatically. Your search history, CPD log entries, saved evidence bookmarks, and intervention plans are all preserved. You can access them again if you upgrade later. On the Free tier, your daily search limit resets to 10 and CPD export becomes unavailable until you upgrade.
If you want more time before deciding, you can request a one-time 7-day trial extension by emailing openbookclinical@gmail.com before your trial expires. Extensions are granted at our discretion and are limited to one per account.
How to upgrade your plan
You can upgrade from Free to Pro at any time from within your dashboard:
- 1Sign in to your account at openbook-clinical.vercel.app
- 2Navigate to Dashboard → Settings → Billing, or click "Upgrade" in the top navigation bar.
- 3Select the Pro plan and click "Upgrade to Pro".
- 4Enter your payment details. We use Stripe for secure payment processing — OpenBook does not store your card details.
- 5Confirm the purchase. Your Pro access is activated immediately and you will receive a confirmation email with your receipt.
For Clinic plans, contact us at openbookclinical@gmail.com and we will set up your practice account, assist with onboarding, and issue an invoice if required.
How to cancel your subscription
You can cancel your subscription at any time with no cancellation fee:
- 1Navigate to Dashboard → Settings → Billing.
- 2Click "Manage subscription" to open the Stripe billing portal.
- 3Click "Cancel plan" and confirm the cancellation.
What happens after cancellation
Your Pro access continues until the end of the current billing period. You will not be charged again after that. At the end of the period, your account automatically moves to the Free plan. Your data — searches, CPD log, bookmarks, plans — is retained for 12 months after cancellation so you can reactivate without losing your history.
If you cancel and then re-subscribe within 12 months, your historical data is automatically restored. After 12 months of inactivity, account data is permanently deleted in accordance with our privacy policy.
Refund policy
We offer refunds in the following circumstances:
7-day satisfaction guarantee
If you subscribe to Pro and are not satisfied for any reason, contact us within 7 days of your first charge and we will refund the full amount, no questions asked.
Technical issues
If a significant technical issue prevents you from accessing the service for more than 48 consecutive hours during a paid billing period, contact us and we will apply a credit or pro-rated refund for the affected time.
Outside these circumstances
Subscriptions are billed monthly in advance. We do not offer partial-month refunds when you cancel mid-cycle unless covered by the circumstances above. This is consistent with standard SaaS subscription terms in Australia.
To request a refund, email openbookclinical@gmail.com with your account email and the reason for the request. We aim to process refunds within 3 business days.
